If you are a resident of the Roanoke metro area (Roanoke City or County, Salem, as well as Botetourt, Franklin, or Bedford), and you’ve been injured, you need to make sure you hire a LOCAL, skilled trial lawyer to represent you.  You have probably seen a number of new billboards and ads popping up from personal injury firms that want to represent you in our local state courts.  Many of these are actually lawyers based in far-flung cities, such as Richmond or even Atlanta or Florida.  These lawyers have no connection to the Roanoke area, and therefore, no experience trying cases in our courts, or any courthouses in Southwest Virginia.  Does that matter?  Absolutely!

First, at Munro Byrd, PC, Ben Byrd and Devon Munro are long-time local residents in Roanoke.  We have lived here for decades, our kids go to school here, and we love our communities.  Devon has also been a farmer in the Fincastle area, Botetourt County.  Because both Devon and Ben went to law school in Lexington, Virginia (Rockbridge County), and often serve there with various organizations or consult with attorneys in that area on specialized cases, we maintain strong local ties all the way up the Interstate 81 corridor.  But in addition to being local residents, we are actively involved in local businesses and social service organizations.  Examples include serving on the Roanoke Bar Association board, the Ted Dalton Inn of Court, the Roanoke Ballet Theatre, W&L Law Council, attending our churches and volunteering in the community.  Our positive reputations with local colleagues and neighbors are something we have earned and care about.  We take our involvement in the local court system seriously, because we are accountable to both our clients and the professionals who staff those courts.

In addition, we know that familiarity with the judges and clerks of our local courts matter.  Virginia’s state court system are divided into “Circuits,” hence the title “Virginia Circuit Court.”  The local circuits making up most of our practice area include Circuit numbers 22, 23 (which includes Roanoke City and County and Salem), 24, 25, and 27.  The judges that serve in these courts serve within a Circuit for many years, and practicing before those judges on all sorts of cases, with motions, briefs, hearings, and of course, trials, is essential to being effective in representing someone in what may be the most important fight of their life.  Familiarity–and the lawyers’ personal reputations–with those courts, their judges, clerks, and jury selection procedures and skills is a major advantage. To tell if we practice in your area, and which Circuit your case may be in, you can view the map here:  https://www.vsb.org/common/Uploaded%20files/docs/map-vsb-judicial.pdf

Out-of-town lawyers soliciting your case are not only unfamiliar with trying personal injury or business litigation in Roanoke area courts, but they are typically not at all interested in doing so.  What they want to do is solicit a high volume of cases to try and settle quickly, and typically, for much less money than a skilled, local attorney who will take a personal interest in both you and your goals.  At Munro Byrd, P.C., you are important to us not just because of our commitments to our clients, but because you are our neighbor.  We drive these roads with you, send our kids to local schools with your kids, and care about making the area safer.  We also care about our reputations here, and that means that we care about how our clients talk about us to friends and family, here in our Roanoke and Salem areas.  That’s how we intend to continue growing our law firm–by reputation earned through effort, ethics, and the best results we can achieve for everyone who trusts us.

The out-of-town billboard lawyers don’t live here, don’t work here, nor do they really intend to try any cases here.  Indeed, most of them don’t have real offices in Roanoke, or don’t even have lawyers in them.  Some of them send a franchise here from Richmond or Northern Virginia, but they are not really locals.  So make sure you ask questions.  Compare several different law firms, and give us a call too.  We’ll answer your questions, and make sure you know that you are important to us as neighbors, even if you don’t hire us.

How much is my case worth?  What kinds of damages can I recover?  What kinds of tricks do the insurance companies use?  Do I need to go to trial, or can I settle my case?  How do I pay your firm if we are successful?  We answer all your questions, and we give you our best.
